Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress and can be beneficial in some situations, such as those you experience before a job interview or going on a first date. But severe anxiety disorders differ from these normal feelings of nervousness or anxiousness. It may already interfere with your life.

The symptoms of anxiety vary from person to person. You may feel:

  • Insomnia
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Rapid breathing
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Overall restlessness
  • Overwhelming fear
  • Hot flashes
  • Dizziness
  • Shortness of breath

Social Anxiety

Social anxiety involves feeling fearful about social situations, such as attending a new school or going to a workplace for the first time. In extreme scenarios, it may prevent you from visiting public places entirely.

Panic Disorder

Panic disorder is characterized by sudden panic attacks with symptoms including dizziness, shortness of breath, and a feeling of overwhelming fear.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

If you have OCD, you may experience recurring, unwanted ideas or thoughts that drive you to do something repetitively (compulsions).
